A Writer

Even when I was a young kid, I used to like to write stories.

The first one that got any attention was one I submitted to a school writing contest. I’m guessing I’m in the fifth or sixth grade. It was entitled “The Rise and Fall of the Third Lunch Period”; a fairly obvious take off on “The Rise and the Fall of the Third Reich”. (I was reading everything I could get my hands on back then.) I came in second; Mary Beth Stornetta got 1st Prize for some pablum about a doll house. I think it was rigged.

My next idea was a parody of a popular children’s series, but “Nancy Drew and the Case of the Lost Virginity” never really made it off the ground.
